I have arrived! With my first day at Leiths looming (Monday!), this week I have made the move to my little flat in Hammersmith! It’s gorgeous and I love it! Even if my ‘view’ is in fact the Hammersmith and City, and Circle line tube station, and I haven’t worked out how to turn off the underfloor heating that is stuck at 24 degrees!
I am just getting to grips with living in a city, with everything on my doorstep. I’ve worked out there are a LOT of Zara’s in London- 18 to be precise. I have already been in 3 of them and pretty much bought the ENTIRE shop. *sigh*. They seem to have a magnetic pull to any girls heart really, I can’t help it!
There’s also a lot of incredible food! There’s a list of Michelin Starred Restaurants as long as my arm, a hundred places to go for a stunning afternoon tea, food markets ranging from street food in Camden, to the world famous Borough Market.
Whilst you cannot beat independent cafe’s and restaurants 99% of the time, it’s one chain in particular that has caught my attention recently.
I am lucky enough to have 2 Pret a Manger‘s within a 5 minute walk of my flat and I have indulged in them recently. I love the fact I can go into Pret and have a choice of healthy, delicious, and imaginative things to eat.
They have kitchens in or near every shop, their food is always super fresh, and at the end of the day, they offer anything left over to charity rather than keeping it for tomorrow. Their milk and coffee is organic, and they don’t use chemicals, additives and preservatives. And they support British Farmers, which is incredibly important. All of their eggs are free range, and their pork, beef, chicken, turkey and smoked salmon is sourced from the UK- the country with the highest Animal Welfare standards in the world.
So I love Pret. Its always my first choice for a coffee and a bite to eat when I’m working my way through every Zara in the city.
It was a trip there this week that prompted my post this morning. I came across Bircher Muesli and loved it so much I decided to have a go.
There are many different ways of making bircher muesli but this is my version, and I have to say its delicious! I make mine the night before in a little jar and leave it in the fridge overnight. In the morning I can just grab it and go, or sit down and much it with fresh strawberries and a pot of fresh coffee! Its a perfect breakfast for one- and that means me nowadays!
- 3 Tbsp natural yoghurt (I use Yeo Valley Fat Free version)
- 2 Tbsp porridge oats
- 1/2 grated apple (Pink Lady’s are my favourite!)
- a scattering of dried fruits and nuts (I used macadamias and dried cranberries but pistachios are awesome too!)
- 1 tsp natural honey
- 1 Tbsp Organic Semi Skimmed Milk
Mix all the ingredients together, spoon into a jar or pot, pop in the fridge and enjoy in the morning!
I love this recipe. It’s so creamy and full of flavours and textures, and it’s something a little bit different from yoghurt and fresh fruit, or overnight oats. I love it because you can take it with you on the go and sometimes a healthy nutritious breakfast can be hard to find if you’re out and about, especially amongst all the delicious looking pastries!
The adorable little jar is from Tiger, my new favourite shop. (visit here: http://www.tigerstores.co.uk)
Have a fab week foodies – I hope you love the recipe!
Love and Muesli
